Issues in Dana Point

Your input into the future of Dana Point is important so GET INVOLVED, SPEAK UP AND BE HEARD!

Dana Point Town Center Plan:

  • The Town Center Subcommittee, along with consultant The Roma Design Group, presented their final plan for Town Center which essentially spans from Copper Lantern on the South end of town to Blue Lantern on the North end of town.  The proposal calls for a two-way street on both Del Prado and Pacific Coast Highway.  The Plan will now be presented to the City Council for review on October 25th at a regularly scheduled council meeting.  Note:  The current council chambers are being renovated and all meetings for both the City Council and Planning Commission are being held at the Community Center, Room B, until further notice.  Please review the Dana Point Town Center Plan and contact your City Council Members with any questions or concerns.  Your input is important and very much appreciated!

Harbor Revitalization Project:

  • The City is considering an amendment to its Local Coastal Plan to incorporate the Dana Point Harbor Revitalization Plan and District Regulations.  The document will establish new regulations for all development in the Harbor, including the Harbor Revitalization Plan. On June 21, 2006, the Planning Commission adopted a resolution forwarding its recommendations on the amendment to the City Council. On September 13, 2006, Orange County Supervisor Tom Wilson and his staff provided an overview of the most recent changes to the Plan and presented the same to the City Council.  The City Council reviewed the proposal, recommended some changes to cap height in the Commercial Core area at 60 feet and to allow for a 3rd tier to the parking structure, if needed, at some future date, along with several other recommendations.  The Plan will now be presented to the Coastal Commission for its review, comments and further changes.  Stay tuned.

A copy of the document can be downloaded from the link to the County’s website at www.danapoint.org. The document is also available for review at local libraries, City Hall, and the County’s offices in Santa Ana and the Harbor.

These projects will have a long-term effect on the City and its residents for many years to come.  It is important that you understand how these projects will take shape and the impact they will have where you live.  By attending the workshops, informational sessions, City Council and Planning Commission meetings you will have a better understanding of what is being undertaken and put yourself in a position to ask questions if something doesn’t make sense to you or if you need additional information to comprehend what is taking place.

Aside from these projects, we still have many other issues in the City to address, including but not limited to, zoning, clean beaches and waters, noise levels, parking considerations, under grounding utilities, increased traffic in parts of the City, public safety and code enforcement.

Remember the City decides where and how to spend your tax dollars and you need City Council members who will LISTEN

My goal is to listen to the residents, make sound business decisions and spend our tax dollars wisely.  I will look out for your best interest!  By working together, we can make Dana Point the best place to live, work and play.
